(NewsUSA) – CME Group, the world’s largest derivatives exchange, gives students from around the globe the chance to experience real-time trading by hosting an annual electronic trading competition.
The event provides a unique educational opportunity as it allows students to learn hands-on trading techniques for agriculture, energy, metals, equity indices, interest rates and foreign exchange futures contracts.
CQG’s simulated electronic trading platform was used to teach these techniques to the 386 teams that took part in this year’s competition, consisting of over 1,500 students from 24 different countries.
Participants also received live market updates through the use of Dow Jones newsfeeds and The Hightower Report. Participants competed over four weeks and the top five teams were invited to an exclusive one-day, virtual market education event.
The first-place winning team was the University of Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano for the second consecutive year. The CME Group University Trading Challenge aims to offer students a collaborative and innovative educational experience delivered by financial professionals and innovative technology. It provides a platform for learning how to apply real-life trading strategies to everyday markets.
CME Group provides a range of educational tools, including its CME Institute educational hub, providing detailed courses, webinars and videos on trading futures on options markets.
The organization partners with other industry associations to offer educational resources including Futures Fundamentals, which provides an educational resource for individuals to understand futures markets and how they impact daily life.
Anita Liskey, CME Group Senior Managing Director of Global Brand Marketing and Communications said “Our annual competition provides a collaborative educational experience that is driven by global financial professionals and innovative technology. Each year, we are delighted to bring together students from all over the world to learn how to apply real-life trading strategies to everyday markets.”
Trading through the CQG platform and having access to live market updates also help students develop a comprehensive understanding of how the industry operates.
